To prevent you from constantly having to drag a full toolbox from spot to spot, there are special skateboard tools that combine everything necessary in a space-saving way. Whether you need to tighten a nut or mount a new deck, with a skate tool you always have the necessary tools at hand.
Special skate tools usually have a practical T-shape, with a hexagonal wrench attached to each end. For mounting and adjusting skateboard axles, you need three different wrench sizes. The 9/16" hex wrench is suitable for tightening or loosening the kingpin nuts. By tightening the kingpin nut, you set the trucks "harder", which primarily means that a greater amount of weight or force is needed to effectively steer them in. The 1/2″ hex wrench is needed for the axle nuts, while the 3/8″ hex wrench is for the mounting kit nuts. Bolts come in Allen or Phillips styles. With each skate tool, both an Allen and Phillips wrench are included. In addition to the very popular standard tools from brands like Unit or Modus, there are also somewhat more special products that convince with clever extras. Brands like Pig, Independent or Reflex have made it their business to solve the problem of worn axle pins and have integrated taps into their tools. This feature is particularly useful, because many axle pins are worn out by repeatedly hitting the ground. Silver Tools have a built-in ratchet that allows you to put together a new board in no time. Also worth mentioning is Independent's "Bearing Saver Tool," which protects ball bearings by preventing over-tightening of axle nuts.
