Bones Wheels recently released their newest urethane formula, the X-Formula. We tested the wheels for you.

The concept and material of the Bones X-Formula Wheels is very similar to the Dragon Wheels from Bones' sister company Powell Peralta.

With its 97A, the X-Formula is a bit softer than conventional skateboard wheels for street or ramp use, which usually have a hardness between 99A and 103A.

The slightly softer wheel promises smoother, quieter rolling, especially on rough ground. Despite the lower hardness, the wheels slide like a hard wheel. Thanks to the high "rebound", the X-Formula Wheels offer very little energy loss and are therefore still very fast.

The X-Formula is currently available in 2 shapes:

The V5 Sidecut Shape is conical. This saves weight and makes it easier to lock into grinds thanks to the flattened sides. Due to the reduced contact surface on the sides, you also have less frictional resistance when grinding.

The V6 Wide Cuts are also conical and have the same advantages and properties of the V5 Wheels, but are even wider overall. The wider tread brings more grip and durability.

We have tested the X-Formula reels and are thrilled. The Powell Dragons were definitely a bit too soft for street skating and the sound was quite dull when doing tricks, which is not so noticeable with the slightly harder Bones Wheels. Our conclusion: We prefer to stick with hard wheels ourselves, but if you are looking for something softer wheels that still slide well, or you ride a lot on rough ground, you should definitely try the X-Formula!
